Maggie's Story

Maggie LiMaggie Li was born in Hebei China. When she was 9 years old, her mother had a very old sewing machine. She took an interest in this great machine and started to sew some footbags (hacky sacks) for playing with at school.

At around 10 or 11 years old she learned how to knit and crochet as well with her sister. These were simple things like socks and scarves, but the desire to learn more and to learn to do design had been hatched!

Maggie then started to crochet stuffed animals and teddy bears up until the time she turned 16.
Her mother always made some very special clothes at new years, fulfilling a chinese tradition, this continued to fuel the desire to learn the ways of her mother, but she just coudln't figure out how on her own.

At 16 years old, her sister presented her with her very first book about how to make clothes. At this time she started to really get interested in fashion. Her first garment was a simple skirt and it excited her so much to think she had done it from beginning to end all herself.

She then started to make clothes for her family and friends. One of her primary desires for learning how to design and make clothes was she just hated to be caught wearing any clothes the same as someone elses. It always had to be a Maggie original.

This desire to make cute skirts and fashionable clothing has never left Maggie as she continues her career in the fashion industry.

Maggie then went on to work as a professional dancer, and model, and as part of these jobs she was able to utilize her design talents for some amazing costumes. Sometimes she even made the costumes.

Maggie then moved to Beijing and worked in a clothing design company to further her skills. After learning all she thought she could, she moved to Vancouver, Canada to continue to expand her design horizons.

This brings us to present day and the design ambitions of Maggie Li and the beginning of her own label Magneta Fashions.
